TfL countdown issues

I am very sorry for any inconvenience you may have experienced over the last few weeks with predictions data in London Bus Pal.

What is causing the issue?

TfL announced last week that they were seeing issues with the countdown feed which supplies all applications with prediction data. On 21 August, they are releasing a fix which should make the feed more robust and performant.

What can I do to fix the problem?

Right now, the only thing that you can do is to try whatever you were doing again. If you are loading nearby stops and the app says that nothing is nearby, just try it again – 99.9% of the time, this resolves the issue.

The problem is intermittent, so right now, the only thing you can do is to try again.

Should I switch to another app?

You are welcome to try another app, but we are all experiencing the same issues right now. Please remember that with London Bus Pal, I don’t bombard you with thousands of advertisements which gets in the way of what you want to achieve. I also frequently test my app to ensure that I don’t kill your battery – some other apps out there are poorly coded and might have unintended consequences (like killing your battery or selling your information without consent).

When investigating another app to switch to, make sure to read all of the latest reviews to understand what you are getting yourself into. And if you ever like London Bus Pal better, feel free to leave a review for yourself – I always appreciate users who appreciate all the hard work I put into the app.

When will this be fixed?

TfL is putting out a fix on 21 August 2023 and this should hopefully fix many of the issues you face. I have been working hard all weekend to test and make sure that this change will have a positive impact for you, and so far, it is a resounding yes.

Anything else I can do?

Please be patient and don’t punish me for something which is completely out of my control. I have been working around the clock to try and get things as stable as possible, but some things are just not in my control. I will continue to work with TfL to ensure that service is fully restored to what it was before.
